WebLab version 1.2 under work
10.06.2010 at 19:00:54

Well, today we commited first WebLab v1.2 changes on the WebLab SVN.

We are planning to deploy WebLab Core packages of this 1.2-Snapshot version on the OW2 maven repository.

This version is only in its first step of development, be careful when using them on your data.

The annotator is now available; you will find some documentation there. It will be updated and will evolve until the released date.

After almost a month, let's see what have been done.

The technical WebLabCore is now split into the WebLab Exchange Model  and the WebLab Helpers.
Thus it will avoid confusion between WebLab Core Architecture and technical implementation of the Model and its tools.

The new Model 1.2 with impacted changes is available in snapshot for tests and debug purposes. Please, do not use it in production applications since this release can change at any moment.

Annotators are design and available too. They replace Weblab Helpers for simple annotation reading and writing.
If you are not really confident with RDF technology, you can use annotator to easily write semantically correct annotations.

You can refer to the documentation for more information to see in which cases Annotators should be more useful than Helpers.

Helpers use has also been simplified. We removed the abstractness of some RDF Helper API since we provide only one implementation of Helpers with JENA. As a consequence, you do not need to embed rdfhelpers.properties in your project no more.

The WebLab team provided also some new services and new features for weblab portlets.
If you are interested with these elements will have to access our SVN since these elements are currently NOT in a production stage.

There is still work to be done:
  • Fix all evolutions predicted for the 1.2 version
  • Begin updates of components, services and portlets with the new model
  • Rework WebLab ontologies to make them more coherent
  • Finish unitary tests on the WebLab Exchange Model and WebLab Helpers
  • Provide libraries in OW2 maven repository to avoid model rebuild on an user environment

The stable release is coming...
